In timp ce asteapta o interventie chirurgicala de transplant de cord care i-ar putea salva viata, barbatul isi valorifica timpul liber pe care acum il are din abundenta observand Parisul si pe locuitorii acestuia de la balconul apartamentului sau. Pierre apeleaza la sprijinul surorii sale Elise, o asistenta sociala singura si cu trei copii, care se muta in apartamentul lui pentru a-l ingriji si care flirteaza adeseori cu Jean, un zarzavagiu ce isi vinde marfa la o taraba din piata si care inca mai are sentimente profunde pentru fosta lui sotie Caroline.
